The g15 ultra is our longest-serving model, having for many years been sold as the g1 ultra. Why? Because it is a personal favourite. Although often purchased as a 1-person tent, it is in fact a compact 2-person tent. And this is why we like it – its tight dimensions are big enough for two people but this economical size has advantages in being light, occupies a minimal footprint, and is very slippery in the wind (due to its small profile). The outcome – a seriously weather-proof tent.
The g15 ultra is pitched inner-first. In our opinion, this is still the best system for geodesic designs as it reduces the complexity of the flysheet and is far easier to tension evenly. With a little practice, it takes around 7 minutes to pitch.
Tents are all about fabric, and the g15 ultra is no exception. The flysheet fabric – by far the most important part of a tent’s specification – is a 30-denier, silicon-coated (both sides), nylon rip-stop fabric. This yarn thickness undoubtedly gives the best balance of tear-resistance, longevity under UV-exposure and low weight in a fabric, and remains the favoured choice for our premium lightweight tents.
The g15 ultra is a terrific bad weather shelter and the tent that Carol (founder and designer) uses the most. It is light enough to be used alone, but big enough for two, and always good enough for the very worst conditions.
