The g30 trek xt is our largest semi-geodesic tent. Like the g20 trek xt, it’s smaller sibling, it finds it users most commonly amongst waterways explorers and coastal kayakers, as well as motorcycle tourers. Its largely free-standing design becomes critical on sandy shores or stony banks where pegs can struggle to secure the pitch, along with its enormous porch for swallowing equipment and bodies.
The g30 trek xt is pitched inner-first. In our opinion, this is still the best system for geodesic designs as it reduces the complexity of the flysheet and is far easier to tension evenly. With a little practice, it takes around 10 minutes to pitch.
About 60% of the cost of a tent is fabric, and the greatest part of this is invested in the flysheet. The g30 trek xt is made from a 40-denier, silicon-coated (both sides), nylon rip-stop fabric, and gives what we believe to be the best balance between cost, durability and strength, with only a small weight penalty.
The g30 trek xt is a veritable bastion against bad weather. Solid and spacious, it is a perfect base-camp tent.
